embroidery on fabric.
I found myself particularly drawn to the
mythological character and story of
Persephone, queen of the underground.
She represented a ‘feminine masculinity’,
an idea that developed in to the feminine
flaneur of Vide Magmas. The result of
this interest; Lythraceae proved a testing
ground for new materials as well as ideas.
There was a sense of having reached a
pivotal moment in my practice in realising
the beginnings of my own language of
colour and iconography. My own visual
grammar had its origins in this project.
